Alicia Silverstone: Today's HD Hottie

The 31-year-old actress, who was born in San Francisco, started modeling as a teen and quickly was cast in a series of music videos starring Aerosmith.

But her film career soon took off with roles as a teenage temptress in The Crush with Cary Elwes and the classic satire Clueless in which she plays Cher, the head brat of the pack in Beverly Hills.

Following Clueless, Silverstone stumbled a bit with roles as Batgirl in Batman & Robin (critics called her 'Fat Girl') and Excess Baggage, which she starred in and was the executive producer.

However, she has recently regained respect and some critical praise with smaller roles in such movies as Beauty Shop and in Broadway plays such as David Mamet's Boston Marriage and Speed the Plow.

“‘We all sit around talking about things we want to change, but unless you change, it ain’t going to happen,” says Alicia Silverstone. “I used to say, ‘What can I do? I’m just one person.’ It’s a lovely excuse but it’s a bunch of BS. Once I made the change I saw how powerful one person is.’”

“Among her favorites [for fashion] are Save, Loomstate and Stella McCartney. She buys socks and underwear from Gaiam and carries canvas bags by Anya Hindmarch and Alternative Outfitters. ‘I’m not perfect at all, I just try really hard,’ she says. ‘Just do the most you can. It’s not all or nothing.’”

“At home, old scripts make perfect paper for her printer and fax machine, while she reuses glass bottles, opts for cloth over paper towels and napkins and filters her water to avoid buying plastic bottles. ‘Every time you buy something, just think, ‘Where does this go?’ she says. ‘It’s not difficult.’”

Silverstone was born in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Deirdre "Didi" (née Radford), a Scotland-born former flight attendant who worked for Pan Am, and Monty Silverstone, an England-born real-estate investor. Silverstone was raised in a "traditional Jewish household"; her father, a native of East London, is Jewish, and her mother converted to Conservative Judaism before marriage. Silverstone is the youngest of three children and also has a half-sister, London-based rock singer Kezi Silverstone, and a half-brother, David Silverstone, both from her father's previous marriage. Silverstone attended Crocker Middle School, then San Mateo High School but did not complete her high school studies. Silverstone visited England during a summer during her childhood. When she was six, she began modeling and was subsequently cast in television commercials, the first being for Domino's Pizza. She acquired some early modeling and advertising work and was eventually cast as the 'dream girl' on The Wonder Years.
