After proving herself as an actor and an anchor on the small screen, Mandira Bedi is now all set to shake a leg for Star Plus's special Independence Day show.

"This will be the first time I will be dancing on the small screen and I'm pretty excited about it," Mandira said on the sidelines of an event organised by Timex watches.

"I'm not a good dancer but I'm giving it a shot. I'm hopeful that my fans will like my dancing act," she added.

Not many people know that Mandira has done an item number for Tamil movie Manmadhan in 2004. Her dancing skills were also seen in the 1995 blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in the song Mehndi laga ke rakhna where she matched steps with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

So now what about doing an item number for Bollywood?

Mandira says she is open to the idea but is waiting for the right offer. "A peppy song and a good banner will make a perfect combination," Mandira said.

The actress, who was last seen on the big screen in Sanjay Gupta's Dus Kahaniyaan, is now all geared up for Pritish Nandy's Meerabai Not Out—a cricket-centric film in which India's test captain Anil Kumble plays a cameo.

The cricket crazy actress essays the lead role in the film. Her association with cricket started when she hosted Extraa Innings during the World Cup tournament in 2003 and 2007 and became known more for her noodle-strapped blouses.

Talking about her role, Mandira said: "In this movie, I eat, drink and sleep cricket. It is all about cricket fans and their love for sport heroes. And this is the first time [Anil] Kumble will appear on screen. It will be a treat to see him acting on the silver screen."

The actress, who made an everlasting impression with her with long-running soap Shanti on Doordarshan, is not interested in doing any more serials.

"Shanti was a dream debut for me. It was a long series but not a stretched soap drama that we have nowadays. It is so boring for me to be a part of these never ending dramas," said Mandira, who featured in a negative role in Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi.

Mandira is mostly anchoring reality shows now. Recently she finished hosting music show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and has now replaced Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishen as the anchor of Zee TV's reality show Ek Se Badkar Ek.

From her trademark noodle strap blouses to the short and chic hairdo she has been sporting lately, Mandira Bedi has always believed in being her own style counsel. The style diva is currently busy hosting reality show Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar , which she insists is very ‘special’ to her. “Though I have co-hosted a reality show Fame Gurukul earlier but this show is special because I am hosting it alone and this gives me a chance to connect with the judges, the contestants and my audience” she explains. Ask her how she sees herself growing as an actor and as a host and she replies, “I think if you are hosting a show all alone, you tend to learn a lot and there is constant growth. When I started off as a host, I felt intimidated but now I feel very comfortable while standing on the stage and enjoy it.” So, what is it that she enjoys more – the cricket-based show which catapulted her to instant stardom or the current reality show she is hosting? Agreeing that a reality show has a higher glamour quotient attached to it, she affirms, “Hosting a stage show on TV is about a full figure shot. I am always at the centre stage and enjoy dressing up. Whereas Extra Innings was more about connecting with the audience watching you at their homes, so it involved a different kind of energy. There you can’t show your larger than life personality, which is possible with a larger studio, live audience, judges and contestants.” Coming to her new hairdo, what prompted her to cut those lovely tresses? “Actually it was not meant to be so short initially. I wanted to get a hair cut done but I couldn’t fix a meeting with my hair stylist Sapna, as we both were busy. So, while I was out of town for a hair-related event, I was offered to try a hair-cut and excitedly I said yes. But once it was done, I wasn’t too happy. So I came back to Sapna and she suggested that we’ll have to go really short to sort that out.” Nevertheless, Mandira is enjoying her bob cut now and is carrying it quite well. “If you ask me personally, I find this quite different and it’s like a contradiction when you don short hair with big earrings and a glamourous saree. It’s like an experiment in its own way.” But then why do we keep seeing her donning long hair while hosting Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar ? “Oh don’t ask me. When I went for the shoot, everyone was shocked. The team was all the more worried about how I will manage traditional outfits with this hairdo. I tried very hard to convince them to let me be with the way my hair are but it didn’t work and that’s why you see the extension of my hair while on screen,” she reveals.

Film/Television Career

Mandira bedi is also very glamorous Television Presenter, widely known in India for her interesting dressing senses. She made her debut in Indian television with the megaserial "Shanti" featuring in the lead role. She is also playing one of the main villains in the popular Indian soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, in which she portrayed Mandira (a character). She was also one of the presenters in the Indian television show, Fame Gurukul which ended on 20 October 2005. Mandira Bedi replaced R. Madhavan as the Anchor of Deal Ya No Deal. She is currently hosting a musical reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star aired by Star Plus
